Parry's Wire Lettuce

Price:  $5.99

Stephanomeria parryi, commonly known as Parry's Wire Lettuce, is native to deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is a perennial herb or bushy sub-shrub producing one or more sturdy, stiff stems with many spreading branches, containing pale green leaves at its base, and bears white to pinkish flowers.

Desert tortoises actively seek out this herb in the mid-to late spring months, and it's one of the species we call "tortoise crack." Requires gritty soils with excellent drainage. Best to grow in an area where tortoises cannot freely access it, they'll normally eat the entire plant at once.
