Chinese HousesCollinsia heterophylla, Chinese Houses are named so because of their pagoda shaped flowers. An annual herb, they grow for only one season, and will re-seed. While Chinese houses aren't native to our hot desert regions, they are a California native, found throughout the higher elevations of our Southern California mountain ranges, and in many coastal scrub communities. They prefer richer soils, and part-shade to shady areas.
